Arthur liked to think of himself as a very sensible individual. He liked to, however, this belief was somewhat unfounded. He smoked, drank, was very impulsive when it came to buying books, especially since he had no notable form of income currently apart from his parents and student finances. But all that aside, he was sensible, he didn’t smoke to excess (apart from when he was stressed) and he didn’t drink to excess.
Or at least, he didn’t most of the time. One Saturday morning, light filtering in through curtains that had been improperly shut, he awoke, his head thumping and his mouth dry. His mouth tasted of cigarette ash and... something else. He couldn’t quite place what, but it was distinctive none the less. The light burned his eyes so he closed them, burying his head in the pillow and attempted to remember what had happened last night. Apparently, he had blacked out, how sensible of him.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that this didn’t really feel like his bed... He opened his eyes, face buried in the pillow and, yes, he was sure he didn’t have any bed clothes this colour. He didn’t really want to move yet, but he had the feeling lying in someone else’s bed probably wasn’t the best place for him to be. Especially since he was... yes, he was naked. Well shit, this had been going well for him, hadn’t it.
Slowly, as slowly as he possibly could, he lifted his head, squeezing them shut briefly to get away from the light and looked around. This bed was a double, meaning it was somewhat bigger than his and... there was a person sleeping in it. Arthur didn’t recognise him at all, which was bad, even for him. Oh god, and the guy would probably expect him to remember his name and what if he wanted a relationship or something. Arthur didn’t date guys, he didn’t even have sex with them – he wasn’t gay. Unless, apparently, he was drunk. That was a habit he really needed to stop.
He tried to get out of the bed, but in his haste he hadn’t counted the fact that his legs were still tangled in the bedclothes. After a while of wriggling and rocking the bed, he finally fell, bringing all the sheets with him. So much for his plan of sneaking away while the guy was asleep...
Yes, Arthur was a sensible person indeed.
