~Kadri Demir~

Name:
Kadri Demir
Age:
20
Birthday:
August 16, 1991
Country of Origin:
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
Floor in the building:
Second Floor
How long they've lived in the building:
Two months
Job:
Interpreter for a local travel booking agency.
Powers:
Omnilingualism and Needle Projection

Appearance:

One would characterize Kadri as short and flat. She’s stands at 4 feet and 11.5 inches, with small breasts hovering between A and B. Despite her lack of top, she has a very curvy waist and dramatic hips. She’s tanned to an almost copper finish, with coffee colored eyes and richly toned brown hair that tumbles and waves down to just past her shoulders. She has a thin face and pointed chin, with a small upturned nose.

She’s a very conservative dresser, wearing soft colors that in all fairness don’t really fit her color wise. Kadri wears long shirts that drape over her hips and pants the scrape the top of her running shoes. She has two accessories: a golden heart shaped locket and a long silver chain with a pointed piece of copper hanging from it. The copper piece hides under her shirt while the locket is proudly displayed for all to see.

Personality:

She’s a soft spoken girl, not one to voice her opinions and certainly not one to show off her emotions outside of a small smile or frown. Inside that head of hers though is a loud and opinionated woman who enjoys commenting on each and every little thing she sees. As soft spoken as she is outside of her head, Kadri is equally as loud inside of it. The only way to see that loud side of her is to make her trust you - as she was taught that the only woman wanted is a quiet woman.

Her rebellion against this - if you could call it that - was to learn as many languages as she could with what limited resources she had. The only ones she managed were Turkish, Greek, and English. However she uses them to her advantage, as she was gifted with the natural ability of copying accents. When speaking English she sounds like a proper English woman; when speaking Greek, she sounds like a native Grecian. She'll speak her mind in either language when at work, finding it to be a freeing and liberating experience.

She's quiet outside of work because she feels - even though it's completely not true - that anything she says can get back to the people who raised her and they'll find some way to call her back to Cyprus to be a proper Muslim wife and mother. Speaking of Muslims and Islam, she is what would be called a recreational follower. She follows the tenants and agrees with some of the rules, but she does not see religion as the be all and end all of her life.

Kadri is an insecure woman as well, doubting the truth of other people's words and seeing them all as people out to trick her - another side effect of her raising. As such, when left to her own devices Kadri often questions herself and ends up falling into a depression, though she avoids using that word to describe her spells as it were.

Likes:

~ Languages; they're her escape and one that gets her a paycheck.
~ England; after all, why leave home to be somewhere she hates?
~ People; even if she doesn't talk often, she enjoys listening to people talk.
~ Crowds; again, the listening to people talk thing. Plus, it's harder to be left with her insecurities if there are tons of people around her.
~ Dancing; another escape, though one used less often.

Dislikes:
~ Solitude; she can't handle being alone.
~ Animals; Kadri feels like they're taunting her and she hates it.
~ Large Rooms; all of the open space needs to be filled, otherwise she feels wrong.
~ Bright colors; they hurt her eyes.
~ Coffee; she can't stand the taste of it.

Any other information:
~ The necklace is an unknown to her - she doesn't know where it came from or who got it for her.

History:

Kadri's birthday is August 16 because that is the day she was found. The one who found her - a stern widow with no children of her - determined that she was a new born and took her in as her own child. Mama Demir raised her to be a soft, small, weak woman who wanted nothing more than to please her future husband. Kadri escaped being just that by convincing her mother that it was best for Kadri to go to school.

And up until she was ten, this worked out wonderfully. But after that, her mother started to make noise about how Kadri was reading too much and thinking too much and focusing too much on herself and not on the appropriate studies for a girl like her. Kadri quieted this noise by dropping out of school. But not before striking up a deal with the librarian's aide - she would leave the door unlocked for Kadri, and Kadri would close the library for her.

It was the perfect plan and got Kadri through all the way to her sixteenth birthday. At that point, Mama Demir decided that Kadri needed a husband to keep her under control. Kadri decided that she wanted nothing to do with this and convinced the aide to take her to England with her when she left. The aide agreed but their plans got halted in their tracks when the aide's passport was questioned.

Kadri managed to get out of ever actually marrying the men her mother chose for her and wasted her time, waiting for the aide to get the all clear. Just shy of Kadri's 20th birthday, the two of them got on to a plane to England. It took Kadri ages to find a job - she lived with the aide - up until just two months ago when a traveling agency decided to take her on to handle the foreign customers. To be closer to work she moved to Gracefield's, where she's lived for the last two months.

Details of their powers:

Omnilingualism - she can learn any language once she hears it spoken properly to her. At the moment, she has little to know control and will answer someone in a mixture of languages, none of which the person talked to her in, if she doesn't control it well enough. Eventually she'll be able to speak all of the languages separately.

Needle Projection - she can shoot needles out of her skin. With enough control, she could eventually spit them at people. For now though, she has trouble keeping the power from popping up when it's unwanted. When startled, needles will spring out of her body - though thankfully not from her face or delicate parts.

RP Sample:

Tonight was a good night. She had gotten a raise, the neighbors weren't bugging her, she hadn't gotten harassed on her way home, and there was water boiling for her tea. Plus, she had found the perfect level for her stereo to play at. Kadri could relax and not worry about anything tonight. Plus, tomorrow was her day off - she was going to sleep all day. It would be glorious.

The storm outside wasn't even bothering her - it was nice to listen to tonight, unlike the previous nights when she huddled in her bed and almost cried for her mother. Kadri shook her head and frowned, standing up to take care of her tea when the kettle whistled. Passing the stereo, the power flickered just long enough to send the stereos off into fits. "Why do I even bother." She rolled her eyes and went to the stereo, fiddling with it in an effort to get it working again.

And then, lightening struck the building and she got zapped by the stereo. She yelped and held her hand to her chest, shaking a little as something built up. Kadri could feel the pressure, but she didn't know why it was there or what it was for. And it bugged her so much.

Frowning at the stereo, she turned from it and went to her tea. Just in time for the pressure to pop and for hundreds of needles to push through her skin. Kadri made a pained noise in the back of her throat and pulled at the needles, stabbing the soft part of her hands over and over again. There was blood dripping on the floor by the time her arms felt well enough de-needled.

Shaking, Kadri stared at the pile of needles and took deep breaths. What on earth had just happened?
